How to launch a WhatsApp Broadcast?

WhatsApp Campaign/Broadcast can be launched either from the Contacts Page or Campaigns Page. To launch a WhatsApp Broadcast from Campaigns Page, click on the “Launch” button on the top right corner of the page. Select the “Broadcast” type campaign and start configuring the steps to launch a WhatsApp Broadcast.

Step 1: Write the Campaign Name and select the Message Type: Pre-approved Template Message or Regular Message

Pre-approved Template Messages are the different message templates that you got approved from WhatsApp according to different use cases. This includes Images, Text, Videos, PDFs, CTAs and Quick Replies.

These messages can be sent to both Active users (who are in the 24 hours window) and Inactive users.

Regular Messages are the messages that can be framed then and there according to the situation or event. This includes Text, Images, Videos and PDFs. These messages can be sent to only Active users (who are in the 24 hours window).

Step 2: Select the Audience to whom you plan to send the WhatsApp Broadcast on the basis of various Parameters and Attributes.

Step 3: Configure certain parameters for the Template Message or create the entire message in case of a Regular Message.

Step 4: Preview the message and click on “Broadcast” to send the message.

How to configure a Template Message for WhatsApp Broadcast?

Choose a particular template message from the approved message template according to the intent of the WhatsApp Broadcast Campaign. For example, if there is an event reminder template message, it would look something like the one shown in the image below.

Here, as you can see the numbers in the double curly brackets such as {{1}}, {{2}}, {{3}} and so on and so forth are dynamic values. These dynamic values are the personalization parameters for each user.

For example, here if you write the value of 1 as $FirstName then all the users will receive the message with their first name. For the event name value, if we write $event_name, all the users will receive the message with their registered event name. Also, if you want to send the WhatsApp Broadcast for a particular campaign, you can write the exact name of the campaign itself. Like, value 2 can be a “WhatsApp Marketing” event.

Similarly, all the parameter values can be configured according to the use case and intent of the WhatsApp Broadcast. In the ‘Media’ section, you need to put the media URL which should be hosted somewhere on your website. The ‘File Name’ is the name that will appear to the user after downloading.

Once completed, you can preview the message as shown in the image below.

How to configure a Regular Message for WhatsApp Broadcast?

After choosing the “Message Type” as Regular Message, you get an option to choose the further “Message Type” from the drop-down. This includes Text, Images, Files & Video.

Once the message type is decided, let’s suppose you choose Image. Now, you need to write down the “Caption” which is the copy of your Broadcast Campaign. In this, all the dynamic parameters can be used such as $FirstName, $event_name etc.

In the “Media” section, you need to upload the media URL hosted somewhere on your website. The ‘File Name’ is the name that will appear to the user after downloading.

Once completed, you can preview the message as shown in the image below.

How to configure a WhatsApp Campaign using API?

To launch a WhatsApp Campaign using API, click on the “Launch” button on the top right corner of the Campaigns Page and choose “API” campaign. Here are the next steps-

Step 1: Write a Campaign Name – This can be the intent of the campaign or something which describes your audience and goals throughout the campaign.

Step 2: Choose one of the Pre-approved Template Messages for the API Campaign.

Step 3: Click on “Set Live” to make the campaign Live.

Step 4: Go to the “Manage” Section of the AiSensy Platform and click on “API Key”. Generate the API key for your Project by clicking on Generate Key button.

An API key is the secret key used for authentication while making a request to our APIs. You just need to generate an API key once and use it for communicating with our APIs. Please write to us at support@aisensy.com if you require assistance in API integrations with the Subject: Need Assistance in API Integrations.

How are WhatsApp Broadcast and API Campaign different?

WhatsApp API Campaign: In this, you choose a fixed pre-approved template message for a particular event that is being triggered by the user. Now, every time users trigger the event, they receive that particular template message automatically through APIs.

Example – Abandoned Cart message for e-Commerce stores, Payment Confirmation message for every successful payment etc.

WhatsApp Broadcast Campaign: In this, you have the liberty to choose a message type from Pre-approved Template Message and Regular Message. Let’s suppose you choose a template message.

Now, you configure the dynamic values of the template message, choose the audience you want to send the message to and shoot the campaign. Hence, this is done manually and not through APIs.

Example – Event reminder message to all the participants, Offer Message to all the Active Users through a Regular Message etc.
